Bad news...and good news.

The bad news...a little over a month ago we lost our sweet Don Don. We loved him so much and still miss him everyday. His ashes sit in my closet waiting for the day that I am ready to bury them.

The good news...

We have a new addition to out family. Dax is a 6 month old Boxer that we adopted from Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center. Things are going well except for the potty training. We are working with a trainer,Nancy Cronce, and expect that this too shall pass...pardon the pun.

I have not kept up with my blog for a long time. My hope is that I will keep up with it again. I have enjoyed blogging memories. If you're reading this, thanks for keeping up with me.

Kira, then…and now

I was going through some old pictures and came across Kira as a puppy. Now she was probably about 8 months old according to her old vet records so we never had her as a tiny pup. Aw, she was/ is so sweet. I can’t believe she will already be 6 years old this summer. Time flies.

The week in review

Ok, so earlier this week Kira had an eye ulcer. She is doing well and seems to be fully on the mend. She will need to go this week for a re-stain to make sure all is healed. Ulcers usually heal within 7 days. I wish I had a video of her getting the atropine drops. Poor baby..apparently as they go into her eye and absorb through the tear duct and so on, she can taste them. Oh her poor little face. Imagine a dog eating a super warhead sour candy…yea, funny. Apparently when we had our snow day I fell asleep watching TV with the kids. They decided to get a picture of me...ehem, can we say embarrassing? Anyway, this is exactly how Kira slept and I’m sure that this is when she injured her eye. Kira is the bottom of the picture. The cat is Oakley.

Mia lost her first top tooth and of course she looks adorable. This picture was taken immediately after she lost the tooth so it looks a little gross but it’s better looking now a few days later. My sweet little Miss Snaggle-tooth.

We were lucky to have a tiny amount of snow for the second weekend in a row. This simply just does not happen down here in Humidity land. I was thrilled. It didn’t last long but I was glad to see it. These are pictures on my way into work Saturday afternoon.

I should also mention that Makeala had Bible Quiz with her Awana club from church. The pictures are still on my camera. They won a blue ribbon and High Honors for the speed quiz as a team. Good Job girls!

Kira got a BooBoo

Kira had a funny look about her eye tonight. I looked again and her third eyelid was up so high I’m sure she couldn’t see out of it. It was very red. I knew it when I saw it…ulcer. Eyes are an emergency so we got in the car and went to the ER vet. Sure enough she has an enormous ulcer on her right eye. I think she possibly got it when she was sleeping with her head shoved behind me while I was sitting on the couch watching TV. Silly dog. She hurts but we have the meds to heal her eye as well as drops for pain relief.

Book Pick

I always knew that my relationship with the dog was where the obedience came from. Whether with my own dogs or the Campers at work. It’s something that is not easily taught to a new dog handler, it’s more something you have to experience. I was strolling through Amazon and came across this book. It is in truth very simple for the experienced dog owner but still I really enjoyed it. It will be a bit easier to explain how and why a large group of dogs can be controlled by one person and without harsh corrections.

If you have an interest in dog/human bond this is a nice read. If you are annoyed by simple application to make big “duh” moments then this book may not be for you. You can read bits of it on Amazon, perhaps it may be a book for you.

On another note, we discovered that Donovan is indeed part cat. He is crazy about the laser light. He ran all over the house chasing it. This should be a nice rainy day play activity to take the edge off.

It’s supposed to snow after midnight tonight and through out tomorrow. They are saying 8 to 12 inches…we will see. BUT, we are excited no matter how much we get. here is a pic of the house in all it’s dry dead wintery-ness. Hopefully the picture will be very different tomorrow.

Walkin’ the Dogs

I had such a great morning! No one EVER, except my kids OCCASIONALLY,want to go on a dog walk with me. My dogs are good! I swear. They don’t pull (much) and when it’s only one dog they are really good.
So I asked my friend Jasmine if she wanted to walk the dogs together in the morning. She said “yes”! *Gasp* Woohoo! A walkin’ buddy!
We had a fantastic, relaxing, destressing along with lovely conversation along the way to the store to get pantyhose. Ha ha , yes…the dogs didn’t mind waiting on a bench while she ran in..pardon the pun…ran. Ok, so I realize I’m not funny but I’m in a good mood.
Man, we gotta walk together A LOT more.

Gone Walking…

It has been quite chilly here in Virginia but we really felt the need to get out of the house and have some fresh air. With any truly nice area to walk a 30+ minute drive, our pickings are slim. So we walked around JFSC and the brig. It was sunny and peaceful. Kira got her sniff on and Donovan just watches for birds and squirrels. We trampled around in overgrown grassy areas and on the edges of swampy mush to get the feeling of being away from the pavement. We are so tired of pavement and would give anything to have some woods or country or something similar close by. I think a drive to the state park is in our not to distant future.

Kira went to work with me today. Everyone was happy to see her. She played with just about everydog. Kira loves car rides so when we were almost home I let her do something that makes her happy. Yes, I know how unsafe it is but, holy cow people, live a little once in a while. It's quality, and for Kira, is the next best thing to running the field.

On Sunday Mia lost her first tooth at 7 years, 2 months and 6 days.
Mrs. Toothfairy left her 4 golden dollars.

On Monday she lost her second tooth. Mrs. Toothfairy made a return trip for $2. She promptly took her "dollars" to school to buy a Judy Moody book from the book fair. All my other kids promply asked for a trip to Wawa for candy. Good Girl, Mia!

Dogs and Weather

I'm not sure which was better today, the weather or the dogs. Well there really is no comparison but I certainly appreciated both. With the big holiday behind us things have calmed down at work and we are getting ready to enjoy the rest of summer with the dogs we call our buds, little bits, monsters, babies, fur kids, beasties, etc. The 4th yard calls to me and the pools call to the dogs. Sitting on the bench and having dogs lay all around me and nudge me for pets, changing water bowls because someone went "swimming". The dogs most days are our peace, our pure life's pleasure. I wish I could fit more pics per post so you could see more of these wonderful K9's we spend our days with. But, here is a few from today.

Biscuit enjoys having her picture taken. She followed me all over whenever I had the camera out.

Neptune "Wiggle-butt". He's so regal. And the biggest chow hound I have ever met BAR NONE!

I was sitting in that chair moments before, i wanted to take a picture of all the dogs laying by my seat but they all got up and followed me, silly beasties. Ha Ha!

Pool Day

I brought an old sand box to work yesterday. It has been so hot.

Stevi and Alex were outside with the dogs. Stevi and I were talking on the walkie about the bath dogs making sure the freshly shampoo-poo'd beasties didn't get wet. Well, that was not a problem since they were all lazy fatties (said with love) and the like. How odd that we only had one out of 40 dogs played in the water on such a wonderful day. Zuni enjoyed the pool though! She was blowing bubbles in the water, which we refer to a snorkling, and having a blast. She's such a doll and we enjoy her company so much!

The Coolest toy!

This is such a cool dog toy. It's even cooler than the Buster Cube. It's called a Bob-A-Lot. I was at work today and I noticed it hanging and I had never seen it before. I know EVERYTHING they carry in the store. I work at the daycare but I pay attention to what is new in the store and I usually buy it (assuming my dogs won't eat it in 2.4 seconds).

So the object is you unscrew the yellow top and put up to 3 cups of food in the bottom compartment. Put the top back on and open the bottom spill hole and let the dog go to town. The bottom is weighted so it wobbles like a weeble-wobble. Remember "weebles wobble but they don't fall down"? Yea, same effect.

Sparks-o-rama

Today a lot of Sparkies teams from around the area converged on Denbigh Baptist Church in Newport News to play the annual Sparks-o-rama games. This is Makaela's third, and final, year as she will be moving up to T & T next year. The kids had so much fun and worked really hard at practice to be privileged to be awarded 1st place for their circle. They were 3rd overall for all 15 teams. The parents, siblings and friends cheered loudly for our favorite teams. We had such a marvelous time and I am so proud of my Sparkie for "bringin' it home"!

Thank you so much to Mrs. Patton and Mrs. Albert for all their hard work in making our Sparks SHINE!

Silly Teddy

If you know the Great Dane breed then you know how they are. They are leaners and they have some funny ways about putting their big bodies in not so big places. Teddy decided he wanted to sit next to me and get some scritches. Now, he could have just stood in front of me but that would not be very "Dane" of him. Instead he put his fuzzy behind on the gym equipment and let his legs dangle whilst holding his upper body by standing. LMAO! He's a giant lovebug for sure! If you click the picture to enlarge it you can really see his legs dangle and even though you can't really tell, his feet are NOT touching the floor. Oh my I LOVE my job!

Snow...Finally!

Those of you that know Mia know about her shoe issues. Some of you have even experienced it...daily. (Thank you Alisa for all your patience with her.) Well, she decided that she is ready to wear socks everyday and put away the stinky fuzzy crocs. Can we say YAY? Anyway, 2 stores and about 30 try-ons we have new shoes. She Loves them. I am glad. We will see how it goes in the coming days and weeks if we have to revert to the stinky fuzzy crocs. (But at least I'll get to wash them.)

Christmas Makes Me Sing

Tonight was the Holiday Concert at the Elementary School. The 5th grade chorus led the night and the first and second grades sang in between. The whole thing was absolutely wonderful. We had a great time hearing all the kids sing, they were precious. Makaela and Mia's classes sang together, this is a video of that performance.

The little boy next to Mia is Matthew...he is SO friggin' cute. He and Mia have been friends since Pre-K.

New Fish....

I guess I'm not so good with the delicate tropical species cause they all died when I did a water change. I had the PH right and the temp was on the money...I was very careful but... It was sad. SO...I went to Petsmart and bought a Koi...not a big one, a 3 inch little guy. He'll be a bonsai Koi because his growth will be stunted living in a tank instead of a pond. He has a gold fish companion and he seems happy. He was skittish at first but is now happy to be in the front of the tank even with the light on.

Furikake is RICE seasoning. I'm so glad I didn't put it on my ice cream. Oops...

Since Alisa sent me that box with all the goodies I have been wanting to go to the Asian market to see what it's all about. I didn't go all the way out to the one Alisa used to frequent but instead went to one close to home. It was small and in an old shopping center so I'm sure it's not the talk of the town. The woman at the register greeted me very graciously but did have the look on her face wondering what the white chick was doing there. LOL. It was so fun browsing the 2 isles. They had SO much stuff I want to try. The rice bowls and miso soup bowls they had for sale were beautiful. I especially liked a rice bowl that had a large cartoonish cat face on the inside bottom. They had a HUGE selection of teas and tea cups. I will go sometime in the near future and see if there is anything I REALLY want as I have so many mugs already....maybe I will cull some things to get some new. :D

From top left...The Green Tea ice cream is delish! I was surprised. I didn't expect it to be so yummy. Not very sweet but lots of flavor.

Cheese Dorayaki....um wow! Again not terribly sweet (I sense a pattern here.)the "pancake" part is good but the filling which I gather is berry and some kind of soft cheese is AMAZING without a doubt. ( just read the sticker on the back of the bag...sugar, egg, flour, red bean, millet jelly, oil, honey, cheese (no type specified), sorbitol, baking powder, flavor. lecithin (soy). So there's no berry in there but it tastes like it.

Kewpie brand Mayonnaise...tastes like mayo....SURPRISE!!! Ha ha. I was attracted to the packaging. My Aunt collected cupie dolls when I was little and I loved them so that was my initial attraction. The reason I bought it was the bottle....it's a squeeze top. Under the cap when you remove the safety seal, the opening is a star. SO cute. The plastic is thin making it very "squishy" and will be easy to use.

Next line... The dark blue bag is Gokujyo Karintou Shiro or wheat cracker. But not just any wheat cracker. This sucker is sugar coated but not overly sweet. It has a great CRUNCH factor.

I would call it an Asian style Churro minus Cinnamon. Mmmm.

In the middle is Shimizu Kosuzu Kasutera or wheat cake. This is a mild cake ball lightly coated in sugar. Supremely delicious... I'm thinking tea cake.

Then of course there's Oolong tea...the best tea on Earth. And satay sauce...if you've never had chicken satay you're missing something great.

Now for the penguin stuff...Nichifuri minimini pingue furikake or seasoning powder. I didn't see the sticker on the side that had an English ingredient list. It has cutsie penguins with a bowl of what looks like ice cream on the lower right corner. I was thinking ice cream jimmies or a pop rockish type candy.....uh....nope. The first ingredient is sugar then there is sesame, soybean flour,wheat flour, calcium carbonate, salt (still seems fine....), palm oil (ok), TUNA (are u serious?), soy sauce, bean paste, egg powder, skim milk, bonito powder, SARDINE EXTRACT (got that in my cupboard next to the vanilla and mint.. :P), MSG, carotenoid, caramel, SALMON, COD, corn starch, lactose, seaweed, carrot, pumpkin. WOW! Ice cream topper? I don't know.... I tasted it on my finger and it was good, I then dumped a little into my mouth.... um, yuk...not good. But I'm still going to try it on ice cream. Hey, you never know, right?

Finally was the Walky Walky. It says "baked wheat cracker with chocolate". It's candy for sure and good too. It's like dense rice krispy coated in chocolate. We will be buying them again.

I got a package in the mail today from Alisa. She doesn't even have her stuff yet and she's already sent me a box. AND WOW!!! So awesome. I love marshmallows with blueberry inside! And those sesame things ooo-weeee. Yum! We all love those. It's such a full box it'll be a couple days before we get to try everything. There's just so much in that box!!! Here's the socks!

Makaela's got the most beautiful eyes...so what if I'm partial. Everyone is entitled to my opinion. He he. So, to me...they're still perfect. She'll only need the glasses for reading but the optometrist seems to think her vision will decline as she gets older. I hope she's wrong.

Anyhow...the frames in the pic are not the ones she chose...they are her favorite color and will be ready for pick-up in 7 to 10 days.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Eric is in the kitchen cooking away. For those who don't know him, he LOVES to cook. This used to bother me to no end as I like to make Holiday Feasts but in the last couple years I have come to appreciate his supurb culinary skills. We will be consuming our magnificent feast later in the day this year, Eric had duty yesterday and I worked this morning. While Eric was at the command last night the girls and I made 2 pumkin pies 'ala canned pumkin mix.

Eric's "chefery" began this morning after the "Oh my Gosh we forgot to get the green beans" run. Luckily Farm Fresh is open and he was able to get those as well as a gallon of Turkey Hill iced tea.

As the house is filled with the smells of my husbands wonderful cooking I am thinking of all of you, hoping that no matter how far away you are, you know you are dear to my heart and are here in spirit. Happy Thankgiving Loved Ones!!!

M & M both made Honor Roll for the first marking period. We are very proud obviously. Mia was so excited to have her name announced and thought the best part was the cookies and juice. Makaela is used to it but was still very happy to have earned the honor.

Everyday at 1:00 we have naptime for the dogs. Seriously. People always laugh and ask if they sleep. Well, yea, mostly. If you ran your hiney off wrestling and running with your friends all day you'd need a nap too.

Ever had a dog just sit in front of you and beg and beg and beg? They pottied (multiple times), they were fed, they played, they got pets....what on earth more do they want? GRRR...until I looked up and saw this face. How can you be mad at that?

The group was really small today. We had a very nice time up in the gym.

NOTE: These dogs are not fighting. They are playing. They go at life in play and rest cycles. You can see some are "spent" while others never cease. lol.

Makaela was Hannah Montana and Amelia was Snow White. This year they played games, Mia did the Cake Walk, got face paint, balloon animals, a puppet show and hay rides.

I went to Target....

this evening after dinner. Our local Target (the closest one anyway) recently went through a remodel. It happens to be my favorite place to shop as I can get almost everything in one place. Less running around is always good for my Global Footprint ;). So anyway, I got the hideous Hannah Montana wig for Mak and red tights to complete Mia's Snow White costume. Alisa wait til you see Mak's nihao kai-lan t-shirt. To-die-for cute! I also got 2 bamboo table runners. OMG it's gonna look so nice with my dark denim table cloth. Trust me, sounds like an odd combo but I have a picture in my head. So, here's a pic of the new carts. They are SO nice. Light weight an EASY to push. Just Lovely.

My buddy Bailey was at daycare today. Man, I love that dog. He's the chocolate lab in the first 2 pics. Penny and Samson posed for a super cute pic. My dog shift went way too fast today.

The weather has been quite chilly these last 2 weeks. Summer ended on a dime, it was like overnight the temps dropped and summer was gone. We are now wearing jackets everyday. I forgot how cute the girls look all bundled in their cold weather wear.

The dogs were so naughty today. The funny kind of naughty, mostly. So, Mav comes in today later than normal. They sent him up the stairs to me (I was in the gymnasium). As soon as he gets in the gate he starts marking everywhere. Now normally the dogs always go outside to potty before coming up to the group, apparently he didn't have enough time today. When I say mark, I mean PEE and LOTS of it. I'm running around the gym with the mop because now other dogs are getting in on the action. Ugh! LOL. I tell him, "Mav, if you don't stop this I'm going to put a diaper on you!" You would think he'd run out of pee but NNoooo, not Mav. So, I did it, I diapered him! LOL, and he continued to lift his leg! Like I said, they were full of it today.

So Alisa has a blog and I LOVE reading it. I thought,"What the hay, That seems fun." So now here I am wondering what I should Blog about. I had all these ideas, in fact, I would dream about them at night even. So.... Oh ideas.........where'd ya go? If you find them tell them to come home.
